KALM offers guided tours of the Lorenz Villa, its collection and generous garden. The representative museum rooms may also be rented for business or academic away days, and a separate flat is available for group or individual therapy sessions, yoga, massage, workshops, etc.

The villa was built in 1903 by the orthopedist Adolf Lorenz and is located near the Danube upstream from Vienna. Adolf, nominated 8 times for Nobel prize in medicine, devised the non-surgical therapy for congenital hip dislocation still in use today. His son, Konrad Lorenz, won the medicine Nobel prize in 1973 for his work on the biological bases of animal and human behaviour and also lived and worked here.

Guided Tours

The 1903 villa, built aside a pre-existing older building, integrates different styles (reinassance, barock, classicism and jugendstil) and boasts a large mature garden. The furnishing is largely original and many items from the Lorenz archive and collection are on display such as photos, films, paintings, personal objects, etc. (work in progress).

At the heart of KALM lie the scientific successes and personal stories of Konrad and Adolf Lorenz (see also http://klha.at). To better understand them, the museum also explores the roles played by their wives Emma Lecher and Gretl Gebhardt, other relatives, colleagues, friends and teachers, and by the historical contexts in which they all lived and worked.

Next to educational goals related to science, architecture and Austrian history, KALM aims to promote reflection on the relation between scientific ideas, individual histories and the context in which they unfolded, and how this relation may be affecting the way we think and behave in our own socio-historical context today.

Guided tours can be booked for individuals, families and groups or school classes for up to 25 people.
